For the past five years I have traveled each
spring from my home in upstate NY to Kansas to hunt turkeys
during the early bow season. I am an experienced turkey hunter
and do not require a guide yet I like to have a quality hunting
experience on private property where there will be no problem
with hunter interference. So, I look for an outfitter who
offers unguided hunts at a reasonable rate. This year I hunted
with 180 Outdoors in southeast Kansas. Although I did not
kill a bird, I had my chances and was very impressed with
both their hunting areas and the accommodations at their lodge.
I saw plenty of birds and believe it or not missed a nice
tom at 6 feet (that’s right, 72 inches). Each night of my
3 day hunt I was provided a great dinner by my hosts Matt
Wonser & Devin Windsor.
So, even though I was unsuccessful I will be returning next
year. What made my hunt with them so memorable wasn’t the
turkey I missed but the fantastic fishing I experienced on
some of their ponds. One afternoon in 2 hours I probably caught
100 fish (bass, bluegills and green sunfish) on my ultra light
spinning outfit. I never have experienced that kind of action
before.
Finally, I am also an avid waterfowl hunter and have traveled
to many areas in the US and Canada in pursuit of ducks and
geese. After talking with the 180 Outdoors waterfowl guide,
Joe Blaes, about the fabulous Kansas late season duck hunting,
I could not resist and booked a hunt with them for January
of 2011. I can’t wait to return!

180 outdoors has a great and exciting hunting experience.
From being involved in every aspect of the hunt , to a grand
slam meal at the lodge, it's an experience every outdoorsman
should take part in. The staff at 180 outdoors is very knowledgeable
about the game they pursue. being a hunter all my life, I
have to admit that I learned Alot on this guided trip. The
effort and hospitality cannot be beat at 180 outdoors. I personally
cant wait till next hunting season so I can make another trip
to SE Kansas. I give it a thumbs up. Thank you very much 180

As an outdoor writer and host, I am extremely passionate about the
outdoors and every fishing and hunting trip that I get to be a part of. I

just about anything with fins, and/or feathers. Without question the
